Two years ago I asked Riky Drenovksy to accept the challenge of creating an "Adult Faith Formation Ministry:. She took the challenge and has done a wonderful job. We are indebted to her as a parish for her fine work and it had been a pleasure for me to work with Riky. As many of you know, Riky has chosen to remain as co-director of our RCIA ministry but is unable to give the time it takes to continue on as Adult Faith Facilitator.
I have asked Sharon Gould to become the new "Adult Faith Facilitator" for our parish. Although Sharon is a neophyte (new Catholic) she comes to this ministry with a lot of knowledge and background. Sharon and her husband, Michael has taken their study of the faith seriously and prayerfully. Some of the questions and searching t hat they have done will be a benefit to those in the parish who questions and want to learn more themselves.
Sharon also possesses a PHD in Psychology which will prove beneficial in establishing programs that helpl both the faith dimension and emotional development of the human person. She has many fine ideas and will al so convene an advisory committee. Please welcome Sharon to this new ministry. I know she is open to your input.
I ask for your prayers as we move forward together as a parish trying our best to live the Gospel message.
Peace, Fr. J
Ever wonder what the Cafe logo means? The dove rises out of a steaming cup of coffee witht he word cafe below it. The dove represents the Holy Spirit present in our midst while we gather, pray and listen, and share refreshments. The Cafe letters stand for Catholic adult formation and education.
The Church's new year has begun. Called the liturgical year, it begins four Sundays before Christmas on the First Sunday of Advent and ends with the Feast of Christ the King. Often depicted as a wheel, it forms a continuous circle of events: Advent, Christmas, Ordinary Time, Lent, the Triduum, Eastertime, and Ordinary Time again. The readings during the year, sinice 1970, have been divided into 3 year cycles. Cycle A, just completed, concentrated on the Gospel of Matthew. During the new year, Cycle B, the focus will be on the Gospel of Mark, the shortest Gospel. Mark's Gospel ignores the early years of Jesus and beings with John baptizing Jesus and has an energetic, compassionate, and human Jesus going about preaching to crowds of people and healing them. The Gospel of Mark was the earliest G ospel written and it calls the church to be faithful, even in difficult times. Booklets to help us prayerfully begin the New Year and prepare for the coming of Christ are available at the doors of the Church.
