Do you know where the First-aid kits are located in our parish, in case you need those type of items?? We actually have three first-aid kits. None of the kits are locked. Here are their locations:- 1. In the Gathering Space, in the brown cupboard under the TV monitor. Look for the RED tackle box. 2. In the Church basement, mounted on the wall outside to the kitchen 3. In the office of the school building. This room is generally locked when religious education classes are not in session. There are also "ammonia capsules" located inside the ushers' closet (in addition to all 3 first aid kits), which can be broken and waved under a person's nose if they are faint. If you use items out of any of the kits, please notify the church office when supplies are running low. The Health Resource Ministry will make every attempt to keep these kits stocked. ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ Ongoing events: Blood pressure screenings the third full weekend of each month, after all three masses. Blood drive every two months on the fourth Tuesday of the month. ~~~~~~~~~~ ABOUT US Faith and improved Health Recognizing the interconnectedness of faith and health, the Parish Nurse Program provides the means for extending the mission of health promotion and disease prevention into the community through partnerships with congregations committed to the establishment and support of Parish Nurse programs. The Program's goal is to enable members of the community to live full, productive, and healthy lives. Who is a Parish Nurse? A parish nurse is usually a licensed nurse who brings the skills of their profession to a congregation and understands health to be a dynamic process that encompasses the spiritual, psychological, physical, and social dimensions of the person. They function much like a community-based nurse, seeking to raise the health awareness of the faith community they serve, and to foster an understanding of the relationship between lifestyle, personal habits, attitudes, faith and well-being. They enhance rather than duplicate services currently in place. The parish nurse uses the instruments of touch, prayer, support, and listening to assess and provide guidance to individuals, families, and groups throughout all stages of life and at every socioeconomic level. The parish nurse does not provide direct care like administering medications, drawing blood, or changing bandages. The parish nurses' role is as a health educator, health counselor and advocate, coordinator of volunteers, and as a referral source to church and community resources. The parish nurse is in a unique position to bring together faith and health and encourage persons to become more active partners in the management of their personal health resources. The St. Mary Health Resource Ministry At St. Mary Catholic Church, Durand the ministry started in Septmeber 2003. What began as a group of registered nurses quickly grew to include other types of health professionals. Thus the name reflects the multitude of backgrounds and abilities in the health care field represented in our group of volunteers. In addition to registered nurses (RN), our group includes licensed practical nurses (LPN), physical therepists (PT), a physical therapy assistant (PTA), pharmacists (RPh), a social worker (MSW), a speech - language pathologist, and an emergency medical technician (EMT). We are currently providing blood pressure screenings after every mass, during the first full weekend of every month. In the fall of 2003, we provided an abbreviated flu vaccination clinic, which we hope to extend in future flu sessions. We have other projects planned for the future, and will continue to plan new programs as the need arises and time permits. The co leaders of the ministry are Barry Krembs and Barb Harris. They can be contacted through the church office.

In the future we plan to put a 2nd Automated External Defibrillator (AED) in the Education Building to potentially benefit the religious education classes and other groups that meet in that building. We'd appreciate anyone who'd like to help defray the cost of this important endeavor. Also, we're looking at grants or possible fundraisers to help with this effort.
